Accessibility

What we aim for

This site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

What that means here, specifically

• Every page has one main heading and headings in order, so a screen reader can navigate the structure.
• Body text meets a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 against its background, measured on the built page rather than estimated.
• Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard and shows a visible focus ring. There is a skip link to the main content.
• The scrolling hero on the home page is decorative. If your system is set to reduce motion, it does not move. You see a single photograph and the same headline. The page is complete with JavaScript turned off.
• Images that carry meaning have alternative text. Images that are decoration are marked as such so they are skipped.
• Every page works down to a 360-pixel-wide screen without sideways scrolling, and text can be enlarged without breaking the layout.
• Telephone numbers, email addresses and the office address are marked so that automatic translation does not alter them.

What we deliberately do not do

We do not use an accessibility overlay or toolbar widget. Overlays sit on top of an inaccessible page and frequently interfere with the screen reader or keyboard setup a visitor already has configured. We would rather build the page correctly.

Known limits

The property search at search.sunnyyates.com is a separate application operated by a third party. We do not control its accessibility. If it does not work for you, call or email and I will search on your behalf and send you what I find, by whatever means suits you.
