The Peninsula or The Point: which Lake Norman neighborhood fits you?
The Peninsula is in Cornelius, in Mecklenburg County, and The Point is in Mooresville, in Iredell. Both have homes on the water and homes off it. The difference that matters most is the club: The Point's covenants oblige every owner to pay the golf club's social membership dues, while The Peninsula Club sells its memberships separately.

Where are The Peninsula and The Point?
The Peninsula is in the town of Cornelius, in Mecklenburg County, off Jetton Road. The Point is in the town of Mooresville, in Iredell County, on a peninsula of its own that its owners’ association says has eighteen miles of Lake Norman shoreline around it.
The county line matters more than it looks. Each county sets its own property tax rate, and each town adds one of its own, so two houses on the same lake can carry quite different bills. The rates for Cornelius and Mooresville, for this tax year and from each county’s own table, are on the Lake Norman property tax page.
What is the club at each, and do you have to join it?
The Peninsula. The Peninsula Club, at 19101 Peninsula Club Drive, sells equity memberships in three categories, Full, Racquets or Social, and its membership page says plainly that you do not have to live in the community to be a member. It does not say that an owner must join, and nothing the neighborhood publishes says so either. The marina, Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club, has a membership of its own. Ask each club directly what it costs, because neither publishes that here.
The Point. Here the club comes with the lot. The Point’s Declaration of Covenants obliges every owner to pay the dues of the social membership category of the club, Trump National Golf Club, Charlotte, and says that social membership may not be separated from owning the lot. Golf is a different category of membership. The club’s own site does not describe the arrangement; the covenants do, and they are the document to read.
In short, a Peninsula owner chooses whether to join a club, and a Point owner pays a club bill whether they play or not.
What does the HOA cost in The Peninsula and in The Point?
The Peninsula: $715.50 every six months, as of 29 September 2026, Sunny Yates's own figure.
The Point: $2,075 a year, as of 17 February 2026, by The Point Owners Association. That is the general assessment: Sconset Village, pier and boat slip charges are on top of it, and so is the club's social membership.
Dues change every year, so confirm them with each association before you rely on them.
What kinds of lot do The Peninsula and The Point have?
The Peninsula: waterfront, golf course, off the water, about 895 lots in all by the Peninsula Property Owners Association's lot list.
The Point: waterfront, water view, water access (a leased slip comes with it), off water, about 867 lots in all by The Point Owners Association, which counts 12 of them undeveloped.
How far are The Peninsula and The Point from Uptown Charlotte?
Cornelius, the town The Peninsula is in, is about 20 miles from Uptown Charlotte by road. Mooresville, the town The Point is in, is about 27 miles from Uptown Charlotte by road. Both are measured from the town center to Trade and Tryon, by OpenStreetMap's routing, read 27 September 2026. The four Lake Norman towns compared has the rest of that table.
What Sunny Yates says about each
Sunny Yates on The Peninsula:
The Peninsula is an established neighborhood on Lake Norman in Cornelius, with custom homes along wooded streets, coves and fairways. There are homes on the water, homes on the golf course and homes off the water. The Peninsula Club has golf, tennis, pickleball, swimming, fitness and dining, and Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club has a marina, a pool and a restaurant; each has a membership of its own, separate from buying a house.
Sunny Yates on The Point:
The Point sits on a peninsula in Mooresville with 18 miles of Lake Norman shoreline around it, by the association's count. Lots are generous, most at least three quarters of an acre, and the landscaping is grown in, so it feels spacious. There are six walking trails, a big Village Green, and streets grouped into villages with New England names. Every owner is at least a social member of the club, and the association has an activities committee planning events all year, so it is easy to meet people.
Which schools serve The Peninsula and The Point?
The Peninsula: this area is assigned to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
The Point: an address here can be assigned to Mooresville Graded School District or Iredell-Statesville Schools, depending on the address.
School assignments change. Confirm the current one with the district's own locator before you rely on it.
How many homes are for sale in The Peninsula and The Point now?
What each one costs is what is for sale in it today, so this page prints no price. The count for each comes straight from the feed and links to those homes, whichever firm has them listed:

The Peninsula and The Point questions
What is Trump National Golf Club, Charlotte?
The club at 120 Trump Square in Mooresville, on the shore of Lake Norman: a 7,495-yard Greg Norman design, by the club's own description, and the club whose site links The Point Owners Association. For a house in The Point, what the club offers and what it costs is the club's to say, and worth settling with them before an offer.
What is The Peninsula Club?
The club in The Peninsula in Cornelius, at 19101 Peninsula Club Drive, on what the club describes as eleven miles of Lake Norman shoreline, with a golf course designed by Beau Welling. Membership is the club's business rather than the neighborhood's, so I send buyers to the club itself for its categories and its fees.
